Some don't deserve respect. This is an old saying, meaning almost being submissive. If a man is dumb as dirt, stupid like, sorry, I can't do it. His mom or dad should have taught him how to do the same and respect his woman. This comes if he's equally yoked with you. Mostly, intellectual men, one who have morals, trained & raised well, usually will know his place. Therefore, a woman hasn't had too much to do with her honor, respect, or tear him down.

Speaking as a man my thoughts woman real woman should be treated as the delicate flower that they were born to be when you give respect you should receive respect, I have been married for 52 years and I can tell you from experience it's not easy keeping the thorns out of your garden but it is possible. I don't believe in divorce nor am I perfect just forgiven. I've also worked in the DOC for 40 years and I've seen a lot and as a child I've experienced a lot. real men are seeking a real woman in this world now each are very hard to find.
