Mechanic hereYour car will shut off even tho it’s running cuz the curcut is now open, nothing to give spark or juice to electric components when you break the circuit. Even with alt spinning you need a closed circuit which is completed by the battery. Unless you close the circuit somewhere else which would cause a short..it’s very clear why it stopped the car which the tech did for a reason. All internet mechanics here saying it means the alternator is bad smh. You all shouldn’t be so confident until you try it to you car when it’s running to see the reality!!

How do people not know that the alternator keeps the cars electrical running, the battery starts the process but disconnecting the battery will not disable a car, unless the alternator is defective already. No "Mechanic" would do that, the driver may owe him money but it's not for vehicle mechanical work. The reason the car stopped is because the driver couldn't see, the hood was up, and didn't want to run over the idiot.

The alternator runs the car when battery cables are disconnected,but when you turn the car off you will need to connect the battery cables to restart the car.

car will run with disconnect battery only until you try to use power like touching the brakes (brake lights go on) it will take power away for the engine spark too fast for the alternator to recover.

So you’re all pretty much wrong. You can do this on older cars without computers and yes it will not turn off, but your alternator can be damaged in the process. Your battery does more than provide electricity. It also shorts AC, spikes and transients to ground. Removing the battery from the circuit allows those spikes and transients to travel around, endangering every semiconductor circuit in your car. If you disconnect the battery like this typically it will burn out the diodes in the alternator, necessitating a new alternator, but if disconnecting the battery interferes with the voltage regulator's control voltage input, it's possible for the alternator voltage to go way over the top, frying everything, now you need to find someone to wire your car and a crap load of parts to replace.
Everybody knows the alternator keeps the car running, but I have questions. How did he know the car had a bad alternator, and how did he get that hood open on a moving car from outside that fast?He must have been working on the car, and knew that it was running off the battery, but it did look like the hood was closed all the way.

The older cars would have kept running with a disconnected battery unless the Alt is bad, but the newer vehicles will shut off once the batter disconnects.

all who commented that the alternator will keep it running , outside of the alternator bring bad , orieleys and advance are selling low amp alternator still charges the battery but if the AC or heat is on high it will die as soon as you disconnect, but from what I saw in the video I believe when he pulled the second cable it was the positive and it shorted against the car itself which would kill any alternators charge
