It’s contrails, people. An extreme version of the exact same thing that happens when you can see your breath on a cold day. Except…”contrails linger when the upper atmosphere is humid and cold enough for the ice crystals in the exhaust to persist and even grow, rather than evaporate.” And the high humidity “…is the most important factor. If the air at the aircraft's altitude is humid, the ice crystals in the contrail will not evaporate. Instead, they can grow by taking water vapor from the surrounding air, allowing the contrail to persist for hours.” I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next whack-job but, Christ on a bicycle, y’all!
