I wonder who ever thought it was a good idea to pour 80thousand pieces of plastic into a river. but I can't have a straw or a plastic bag..
Unlike most people, I look up things that I've never seen or heard of before, so I checked it out. It's the Ducky Derby held annually to raise money for the Special Olympics. People can sponsor a Ducky for $10.00 and win prizes like a brand new Chevy or $2,500.00 . At the end of the race all of the Duckies are collected for use the next year. This year's event raised more than $600,000.00 . So relax, their not real duck's and they aren't left in the river.
This is the reason
Once the race is over they are taken out in nets and reused the following year. Proceeds raised from the race are for the Special Olympics.

They are contained in a designated area on the river and immediately scooped out by volunteers with the help of netting, with a dedicated "duck collector" on hand to pluck them from the water.
