Why aren’t the gears in contact with each other?

trying to keep the timing correct, the gears aren't touching because a belt goes around the outside of them both and he had to take that belt off and put that in there to keep it right where it's at, good idea but not all vehicles are the same so 🤷

this is cool but I have my own method that has never failed me! clamp the belt to the gears works every time!

The non mechanicals in these comments need to start wrenching and stop watching videos. You all have cooked brains.

Now that's "cam locks" if you do not have the proper locks!

Always do this before taking out the muffler bearing or topping off the headlight fluid!

It’s a neat trick for when you’re replacing the timing chains, guides, or cams for a DOHC engine.

when you work on (DOHC) motors D.ual O.verH.ead C.amshafts. lock the cams. the left Camshaft is for the intake side of the engine, the right one is the exhaust side. as the cams roll up and down the shaft lobes the lobe is shaped like a teardrop not as pronounced though. the valves open and stay open for a specific duration and then close the same way. if the shafts are out of alignment even a tad the car won't run right. some cars have adjustable timing gears that allow you to advance or retard timing. older cars you would just loosen the distributor shaft and turn it one way or the other to do this. but cars don't have carburetors anymore.

yep nick a burr in those gears with these hack job tools and you'll be replacing an engine shortly when that belt frays (interference engine). use the proper tools for the job. do it right the first time. any jimmy can replace brake pads, but Robert learned to do the job correctly. not many Robert's out there. wrenched cars for gm 27years. lots and lots of specialized training. take your vehicles to the dealer they have the training and most importantly the proper tools. many of the "jimmy" shops are full of the hacks that couldn't cut the training. and use the hack methods you see here. fact. sure pay once cry once. pro skill isn't cheap.

An Intentional motor size on what appears a new rebuild. As a warranty if the one doing the work backs their work (as in a company or business) they get the engine back with no harm done to it. For keeps by an owner/employee possibly by sitting on warranty returns after yearly inventory. Or it's personal as to why it's being done. 🤷Just a guess
