Of course the kid's should learn how to stand up for themselves against racist ppl but teach them correctly. Talking about getting her gun is not teaching them how to handle a situation like this,It's only teaching them that if they get in a disagreement with someone or a racist that pulling a gun is how you handle it and could end up with a deadly outcome or prison.
