I grew up old school. We played in the woods ,built underground forts and tree forts. We where home by dark for supper and it was yes sir,yes mam,no sir and no mam. Simple rules. Had run ins with the law,but never arrested. Learned to respect other people's rights and the police. When we did wrong we were punished on the spot. I'm 63yrs old, raised by Grandparents! I thank God for the discipline that was given to me growing up. I don't take anyone or anything for granted. Love God, most people and animals. I've learned to respect all that's around me. Never been racist and not ever gonna be. I know right from wrong, and try to stay on the right side of things. I'm not perfect,no one is. I never push God on anyone. My church is where ever I stop to talk to God. Be it home, woods or even Walmart. God is everywhere and in everything around us. Don't put me in building and tell me it's the house of God,it is not. It's just a structure.

Fk I went to the Drs by myself, got stitches, penicillin shot, wrapped up, then went back out to play only to go home at dusk and tell grandma that the bill would be sent over from the Drs, which was only 1 block away!🥴😂

I had a beeper, a betamax VCR, no internet, made phone calls from pay phones using coins, the house phone had no buttons (rotary) we stayed outside, without worries of being hurt or kidnapped, I can go on for 36 paragraphs about how much better those days were than the present.

Damn straight & my momma was a nurse so unless you were bleeding out or damn near dead she could take care of it herself, hell she gave me the choice at 9 do I wanna go to the DR for him to pull my stitches or her. I chose her of course because the wait at the DR would cut into my play time🤣🤣🤣

Not to mention, if we did something stupid in school, we got punished in school. Not only did we punished in school, we got punished by mom when she came to pick us up, and THEN we got punished by day when he got home from work! So yeah! It's best you just leave us GenXers alone because we will tear you down! Have a nice day!

Gen Xers were the last generation to have a chance before this country fell into one of the worst financial crises since the great depression. You also were the last generation to have schooling that didn't involve mass shootings. You all were the last to have a legitimate chance at success or the American "dream." Gen x you were the last to have a childhood without the distraction and struggle of internet and social media. Gen xers, you lucked out.

Lol this dude didn't grow up with Gen X so he doesn't know. I'm a Xenial, meaning I was one of the little ones that brother or sister had to watch while we waited in the car outside of the bar. Sometimes we had snacks, but most times we just had to keep ourselves busy until the grown ups got back.

"poking a dead animal in the woods," 😆 😂 my sister cut off the tip of her finger. She told my mom she was hurt. My mom was sewing us clothes and didn't look up. When she finally did and saw all the blood in the kitchen sink, my sister got yelled at for getting blood all over. My sister cut open an ankle while riding a bike, and my mother poured peroxide into it. She did finally take her to the hospital. We were jealous of my other sister because she was allergic to methialade and got neosporine instead. Ask someone about how hard they blew to get it to dry (burned like hell!!!) We wouldn't tell my mom we got hurt. There were 6 of us kids.

I was born 1961 raised by my grandparents. Walked around barefoot, dirt roads, switch and belt or whatever and as close by whooping. I knew how to cook at 9 yrs old. Owned 2 pairs of shoes. Church shoes and school shoes. We raised chickens and hogs in the yard. Had a big garden too. We worked. I started at 8. Tobacco field. The mule was pulling the cart in the tobacco field and I walked behind and picked up fallen leaves. Women were loopy tobacco at the barn. I have so many memories of those good old days. I’m gonna stop

She ain't never lied....We grew up different from these soft ass kids of today. Everything she said from poking dead animals with a stick to building bike ramps to jump damn near killing ourselves. And if you get hurt....you better not go home crying thinking you getting sympathy. Get your ass cussed out and sent back outside. I was told that it won't no money for a hospital bill. I had to be clinging to life. If I'm able to stand. All I got was some peroxide, alcohol or iodine and an ass whooping for being dumb enough to do whatever I did to get hurt. Then sent back outside and told me" I bet your ass won't try it next time" Now get the hell out my face and carry your ass back outside before I really give you something to cry about "😂😂😂

It’s all true! By the time I was 11, I could change my own bike tire…take the tire off the bike, take the tire off the rim, take the tube out, find the hole, patch it and reassemble! All because I watched my dad and brother do this with car tires in my dad’s service station. I watched my dad’s garage starting at age 12 for 3-4 hours at night. This included, pumping gas, writing up a bill of sale and closing up shop at 9:00 p.m.

I was in the 4th grade living in Canyon City Colorado at the Base of Skyline mountain. We built a ramp at the bottom of the mountain for our bikes and the line of travel was so close to a mobile home that as soon as you touched down you better make a right turn or you would plow right into that trailer. And we did all that without any safety equipment. That was around 1976. Gen X did shit that you other generations would piss yourselves just thinking about. FAFO!!

I'm a so called "millennial" but I'm more generous x than that. all my siblings were born in the 70's and my parents kinda tasked them with watching me and my younger brother. that being the case we were taught to have fun the way they did. the result was us being held in high regard by our peers for knowing how to have the most fun. yeah, we got in trouble but our names were never forgotten.

My mom once sent me to the dentist, which was about 2 miles from the house, with an insurance form when I was 9 years old to get a cavity filled. It was my 1st dentist appointment but if I wanted it filled I'd better hi tail it before I missed my appointment at 9 am sharp. I made it in plenty of time. Was I scared? Hell yeah but cavities hurt, ya know?
