so I have to unspool the whole reel to get to the end of line ?
just about every comment here was made by idiots that have never tied tackle ever. this is a leader line, i.e. the line that runs between the main line and the hook. you peel off the amount of leader you want to use first, tie the hook, then attach the other end to a swivel or other connector that completes the rig. when fishing in flowing waters, it can be anywhere from 2-5 feet. the leader is not usually braided line, rather heavy, dense monofiliment. it's stronger and more abrasion resistant if fishing in hard rock river bottoms.

This is literally overcomplicated for no reason. what happened to tying normal knots. i've caught plenty of big fish and never had a normal knot fail.

Tie a loop O and bend the loop and hit it through the eye, pull partially through, around the hook and up. Done.
