Incorrect, when Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas, India was known as Hinduistan not India. The word Indian came from the fact he called them Children of God (una gente in Dios) and it was shortened to Indian ( in dios).
If he intended to use the term “En Dios” (In God) instead of Indios later known as Indian, he would have never enforced labor systems for profit, cut off hands of those who failed to produce gold, and oversaw the death of thousands. This lead to the near extinction of the native Taino population. He was an evil, brutal person who did not have an ounce of God in him. He ignorantly thought he was in the East Indies and labeled innocent people Indios like he was naming pets. We have continued the disrespect to the Native Americans by still using and applying the word Indian to them.
