This isn’t just a cool trick. This is super interesting science that has real-world application in medical treatment. At UCSD I took a course called the Eye & Brain, taught by Dr. Ramachandran. He was the creator of the shadowbox (or Mirrorbox) & the pioneer of mirror-therapy for treating phantom limb pain & later, motor disorders (such as paralysis). This video is not exactly a shadowbox (doesn’t have a mirror) but it is based on the same principles. One hypothesis is that if your brain believed that the paralyzed limb had moved or felt pain, that the person would begin to develop new neural pathways to assist in regaining physical motion or sensation. My son also happens to be hemiplegic (partially paralyzed) so this area of study is fascinating to me.

No, that’s not going to work, you need it to look more like his actual arm/hand. Maybe make him unconscious, then when he wakes up don’t let him know where the real arm/hand is, then tell him this I guarantee he will feel it, somewhat. Because in hindsight, in this scenario his brain knows where his real arm/hand is so there’s no real fear. He’s looking at the fake hand and yelling, sorry this is a made up skit!!

they train the brain to associate sensation with the fake hand by tickling the fake hand and real hand at tge same time. very quickly, when they tickle the fake hand, the brain will feel a real sensation.
It doesn't have to be a hammer. Just stroking it would have caused a sensation.

is not AI in the 2000s it was a trick done in videos, but is missing a whole lot before this part. is missing how they fist touch and did different types of feelings in his real hand while he looked at the fake hand.

Before going to whack a fake hand the experiment has the recipient have a simultaneous action to the fake and Tesla hidden hand so there is a mental connection, then they do something like this to confirm it took.
