thick spool barely has any line on it to begin with. Who's this clown trying to fool?
This really isn't all that impressive 🤔 first off. That's a shallow spool with a heavy pound test line. In short, a 12 year old can cast that rod far enough to unspool it. Sorry for being that guy 😆

even if casting out in a field for distance, what is the point of running out of line when the weight was still coming off the spool at a fast pace.
I used to fly kites with my surf pole and reel. On time, my plastic reel housing of an old Peen reel imploded because there was so much pressure from all the line as I retrieved the kite. I would add so much line that when it was all out, it was difficult to find the kite since it was so far away.

Bait caster for less friction. Wide and shallow still holds a lot. Narrow and deep can hold a lot but more friction. Bait caster and 12 for pole I can cast a long ways. Some people with braid and shock line about 10-20 foot with 80 pound line, bait caster can go a few football fields. But shock lines can be dangerous.

It was some sort of casting competition. they all had X amounts of both weight and length of line and he apparently used all the line. I'm sure there was also a target involved out there somewhere for the whole length/accuracy thing. Just a guess. idk
