the reason Esau hated Jacob is stated in Genesis 27:41: "And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him". This refers to when Jacob, with the help of their mother Rebekah, deceived Isaac and received the patriarchal blessing intended for Esau.  The specific reason: Esau’s hatred was a direct result of Jacob receiving the blessing his father Isaac had meant for him. Esau's reaction: The hatred led Esau to plot to kill Jacob after their father’s death. Rebekah's intervention: When their mother Rebekah heard of Esau's plan, she sent Jacob away to stay with her brother Laban until Esau's anger subsided.
