This is what I have always said: This is not about being White, Asian, Black, or Hispanic. Wrong is wrong. When someone commits a crime and resists arrest, a police officer may use force in response. For those who support people who steal or harm innocent lives, that is simply not right. The point is this: do not steal. There is a business owner behind that store — someone who has worked hard and has a family to provide for. Sometimes I find myself wishing this country enforced stricter consequences, as some other nations do, where severe crimes receive severe punishment. In the Dominican Republic, for example, police are often very harsh with criminals to discourage theft. Yet here, when a criminal is physically restrained or punished for stealing, some immediately claim abuse and say it is wrong. There is a group of people who seem to defend wrongdoing rather than accountability. I will say this now: give it a few more years. This country is heading toward a place where many of us may feel we need to protect ourselves in order to feel safe.
