I can tell you first hand that booby trapping a package and leaving it on your property is completely illegal in all 50 states of the United States. you are now liable for the man's recovery and potential lawsuit even though he was trying to steal your package.
What would happen if the package hurt someone happen to visit picks up the package to bring it in the house like a neighbor or relative just maybe you forgot or per pairing and you get hurt or your neighbor kid I wish people wouldn’t steal others stuff be careful someone maybe innocent may in up in jail or hell just saying
as funny as that is. the person who made that box can go to jail for attempted murder. that shit is illegal. should've made a glitter bomb or filled the box with some kind of sticky liquid or somthing that would stain their skin and clothes that takes weeks to wear off. lol

Katko v. Briney (1971) established that a property owner was liable. this is the civil case that says your responsible. it is illegal so there will also be criminal charges. you might have a case though if you put a little sign on it that says package booby trapped. They make a choice then by taking the responsibility away from you and giving it to them. May not hold you responsible because they knew.
