Certain countries are mapped larger or smaller for a very specific purpose that is public knowledge. It's not a secret. because the earth is a spherical 3D object, and maps are a 2D representation, lat/long navigation maps have to distort the top and bottom of the map larger, and the middle smaller in order for it to function for navigation.

That comes from trying to create a 2 dimensional image from a globe on an unbroken square sheet. The more accurate maps are the ones with the cutouts on top and bottom. And also the only reason that the United States is at the top of the map and not Australia is because the earliest map makers were from the northern hemisphere and put themselves on top. There’s no reason north has to be up, that’s relative to the perspective of the viewer.
Its a matter of mapping a curved surface on a flat surface. She aaid exactly why the first map is the way it is. Its a mecator a cylindrical projection.

Of course our country is in the middle of our maps 🤦🏽♂️ its called a point of reference. Maps made in the UK place them in the center and its the same for many other countries, they use a standardized world map like the one the lady demonstrated when working between countries but maps made for use in country often place that country in the center of the map. I really hate that i had to explain that to yall and nobody else realizes it.
This is called a projection, most likely the Mercator projection. Because the earth is a sphere and that map is flat distortion is unavoidable and map makers generally leaned towards distortion that helped the best with navigation. If you want an accurate map, you need to get a globe.
