okay explain to me I have a yellow red and orange jack stand that goes from one two and 3,000 lb capacities the base on them are five to six inches wide how does that fit inside my floor jack because my floor jack is not designed for that and I'm not going to go out and buy a $2,000 floor jack for a $80 pair of jack stands I don't know does that make sense I was told they're not called jack stands they're called safety stands so when you use your floor jack to Jack something up you put the safety stands on the frame of your vehicle in case the Jack gives out the safety stands kick in and do their job I might be wrong I don't know I've only been a mechanic for 35 years never heard of this

okay tell me this you've got a car that's only two inches off the ground maybe three, how do you fit the jack stand in the jack when the car is that close to the ground? is impossible to get to jack stand in the way you are suggesting the only way that would work is with a pickup that's got 8 to 10 inches of clearance of you is not using too many brain cells because you can't do it the way you say because of jack stand will not fit in there with the car on the ground.
that is only for roadside assistance like changing a tire. there is a reason why text have the shape they do. and a reason why they are sold in pairs. the jacks are made to contour lifting mounts and or axles. the head is like that for a reason..

ok put it in there and slide it under a honda accord or any other passenger car to jack it up. might be good for an suv/truck with ample ground clearance but not 90% of vehicles
not all jacks have an opening there. It just so happens this one does so you could do that if you wanted. Jack stands are sold in sets of 2 for a reason. You haven't been using them wrong he just wanted views. Carry on and feel good about yourself.
you must be under 40 we had frame jack stands before the hydraulic jack was created you needed to use them when all jacks were bumper Jack's you might have to Google bumper Jack's we used them the first 20 years my life before the hydraulic jack was made so your wrong they were made way before nice try
The REASON to use the jack stand without the jack is so you can continue to USE the jack, which is 10x more expensive. So go ahead and use this method, if you don't have a problem having both out of commission.

they weren't made for that, a good idea thou, but jack stands where made for when you "JACKED" your vehicle up you could get the "Jack" out of the way of your work

Wrong !!! Then the jack is in the way of Doing the work. You use the jack to pick the car up and put the stands in a location the allows you to work unimpeded
