you can actually do that as long as it's not going full speed. I have actually run this ride many times and we used to do that stuff all the time. I traveled for 6 years setting up, tearing down and running rides. when I quit was when my cousin got killed by a ride he was running
when I was 7 years old we went to Disneyland and I rode this ride several times two of those times I can remember the fellow running the ride doing this exact thing scared the soup out of me my dad just laughed

it's not reversed on purpose. it does a a few laps forward and a few laps backwards. this ride has been around for decades

I worked at a amusement park. ran a ride like this. had to jump on and hold a busted safe bar down. it's dangerous and stupid to do this unnecessarily. had he gotten hurt he'd have sued for millions because of his own stupidity
