I totally believe him. It happened to me.

so i used to work for the police department and had to do one of these cases. It is a major issue no matter intended or not and he will likely get arrested with no criminal charges and will have to pay fines up to 2,000 dollars

iirc, the gun did still have a round chambered. but i could be mixing him up with some other guy. not to discredit him in any way because accidents do happen. but I think the tsa agent had to deny him travel and "possibly" have police confiscate it but again I could be wrong.

I forgot my unloaded firearm going through TSA in Phoenix. Police gave me the pistol back and told me to return it to my car. No big deal.
