Excellent! Slow down and go lower such that your hamstrings are parallel to the floor. Next, use the squat rack. The Smith machine is robbing you of both your confidence as a Smith machine removes the need for stabilizer muscles and the body's natural, multi-directional movement, which a squat rack allows, leading to reduced muscle activation and functional strength development. The guided, fixed bar path of a Smith machine also limits the natural range of motion and core engagement that a free-weight squat rack requires, making it more of an isolation exercise rather than a full-body, functional movement.
