Poor execution by the team, not knowing where to go what to cover. That’s the coaching staff in not prepping the team during spring practice. I had walk through drills with Q n A. I asked my fielders on the field put base runners on base, give a scenario and ask the players where their going to do what to cover. first a walk through, then run it at full speed, then end it on a pickle play. That paid off a baserunner tried to go home, my players got the runner out after several attempts to tag the runner out. The players rotated kept the runner between bases before being run down. Plate umpire said in 15+ years of umpiring that was the best in containing a fast base runner from scoring. Prepping my players work, during the season we would practice what didn’t work the previous game. A fine tuning and a refresher practice. Those were fun days 25+ years ago.
