Women in the United States have no idea how good they have it. If they had to live in Iran, they’d understand real fast how different life can be for a mother. Don’t get me wrong Iran has some of the most kind, warm-hearted people in the world but the laws are a completely different story. When a child turns seven, the law can take that child away from the mother and hand legal custody to the father. A boy is forced to live with his father until age fifteen, a girl until age nine. Imagine being a mother and knowing the clock is ticking on your own children. Only after that will the court sometimes ask the child who they want to live with and even then, the child’s voice depends on whether the court decides to listen. That’s the reality. That’s the difference.
