he's absolutely right, once other contractors find out you didn't pay YOUR CONTRACTOR. They won't touch that job unless you have cash up front, and they'll most likely charge you double.
This is a sad situation. I don't know if there was a down payment , a contract signed. If there was a contract that put a lien on the house, he would have an advantage. I see he has lost money that he paid into the materials. His anger got the best of him. Then again,I am sure most of us have heard there are people who will say. "I will not pay you. I don't like the work you have done." These people will deceive, tell lies, and cheat for free work like the MONSTER in the White House has done.

Contractors pay out of pocket for materials. They recoup that when you pay at the end. I'm guessing, this gentleman needed that money to pay for the materials on an upcoming job.
