Realism not racism. I had to have that conversation with my son when he went to college. We discussed profiling, proper traffic stop behavior, and to leave if his group is engaging in poor behavior.
People are so sensitive about the race talk it’s not racist or putting into a adolescent mind that because they look different this WILL happen. It’s a safety precaution because this does happen in the world obviously. It’s a good thing to teach a variety of lessons within this situation but one is the realism that being black can portray you as a “bad seed” when that’s not the case. There’s nothing racist about this, you can clearly see they has interracial friends so bringing up the consequences for this while incorporating race is also helpful for their development.

" mom you blamed everybody else for EVERYTHING I DID and I was the ringleader. Color does matter and because it may not matter to us it is a big problem in our society and not talking about it does not change the reality of discrimination and racism in the world. I wished no one had to teach their children about anything but enjoy being a child nothing bad but we don’t live in that kind of world and never have because people of all nationalities have preconceived notions and prejudices even when they think they don’t.

That was a good lesson and a good dad. And it's sad but true that when you have a child of color, the RACIST parents of other children will look for any excuse to not let your child play with their child. Children don't see that level of nuance, they are too innocent and don't understand that some people hate just for the sake of hating and some people are so miserable they want to make other people miserable no matter what. Teaching your child the realities of life sucks but you can't shelter them from the ugliness that is in this world, because there are too many people ready and waiting to take that innocence from your child. It will hurt them less when it comes from you and you warn them
