That there was a Water Moccasin, I believe. They can be aggressive and territorial. I had one join me on my kayak on the Withlacoochee River in Florida. It was definitely aggressive.

It's a myth that Water Moccasins will chase you. If you aggravate or accidentally step near or on one, that's when they'll strike trying to bite you.
