The ticket was worth $1000. There is a news report on this. The store has a history of doing this. The clerk was fired. The store lost its lottery license. She kept going back, and the store eventually gave her the rest of the money only after she was suspicious and called the state lottery and the police. Retail owners do this a lot. So, if you're a lottery gambler, check your own ticket. If you think you won, take a photo and sign it before you give it to the clerk to check

Once I learned how to check my own tickets at lottery machines, I will NEVER hand my suspected winning ticket to anyone to check it. Now I even video myself scratching it off and checking my tickets at lotto machines myself .
