can someone explain how exactly an incline will slow u down if you end up going backwards on it?
California did good at helping our truckers to safety when their truck fails
anyone who uses one of those ramps knows that the truck stops almost dead instantly. The Jake brake still isn't going to be working going up that hill and the bumper will be plowing gravel and dirt almost immediately. add to that most runaway ramps have spikes underneath the sand and gravel so it deflates all the tires to enhance the stopping power. and yeah that gets expensive and why a lot of drivers would rather chance going over the edge of the cliff than use one of those ramps. and it takes a hell of a tow truck to even move the disabled tractor and trailer even an inch back down that hill, you don't have to worry about it rolling anywhere. but it makes for a good fake video in fantasyland
think my fortune lies in installing Underwear Vending machines at the top of those ramp. 🤔
short break down of how these ramps can work, there are many different setups but the most common in the US is gravel/sand mixture, loose gravel causes the truck to lose some grip, but still maintain control of steer tires, the loose sand causes the heavy truck to sink, being set up on an incline causes the truck to lose momentum while safely coming to a stop in a controlled area/manner. still to long; Think about how easily a ball rolls up hill with some momentum on a smooth surface, now replace that smooth surface with something rough and loose and it doesn't roll quite as fast or far with the same momentum
is that i-70
It’s brakes not breaks! Uneducated people!
Oh now he has Jake break
brakes overheat from continuous use. the purpose the Jake break is to. help slow it down. Thereby requiring less break work. If you've ever gone to Pikes Peak, you know that they stop you half way down to check your break temperature. If they're too hot, they make you stop and let them cool before you can continue. No run away ramps.
He caught a break because he had no brakes.
These truckers need to check their brakes before they get on the highway
It will cost you a pocket full of money to get towed out of the runaway strip but it would have cost them more if they had not used it. I as a driver came awfully close a couple of times to using one of the ramps coming off the Grapevine.
that just coast him a lot of money 💰
I was in the cab of the truck when my dad had to do that coming down the Saluda Grade, extremely scary 😨
does the dot charge company's for using run away ramps?
This is what happens when a big rigg loses it's breaks and can't stop. The sad part is most states have either closed down these runaway ramps or removed them completely. They don't exist like at the bottom of huge hills like they used to anymore. Big rigs are dangerous af when they no longer have working breaks. One thing most Trucker don't think of is when they lose the breaks in the truck they still have they're trailer breaks they can use to help them stop. My fiancée is an OTR Trucker.
I remember when people laughed at California for putting these in. It saves lives .
The wise thing I read from someone on here when you lose your breaks. You still have trailer breaks put it in the lowest gear and hit them trailer breaks. Be safe out here. Big up to all the truckers. Can’t wait to get back out there
So if you have no brakes and how do you stop from rolling back down the runaway truck ramp..?
waited too long to down shift, jakebreak etc definitely a rookie
almost a full pull 😂 time for a change of clothes
bro sometime and everone make maiske
how did they get the truck out?🥺
okay so they use the ramp because the brakes don't work and then they start going back down the hill that don't look like much of an entrance ramp onto that highway so not looking so good for the trucker no matter if he took the hill or not. and naturally the video fucking ended before we fucking knew yay or nay on the ending so I hope it turned out okay
almost at the top u should have tuned the wheel right to hop over the brick wall then turn left before it rolls back so the wheel can get stuck on the wall and not roll back down the hill into traffic
I think I would be done with that career after that happened😳😳😳😅
So fake
I hit the escape ramp on the mass pike in 1993 in Lee going about 90 mph and it stopped me in less than 200 feet!! It scared the fuck out of me.
It's 3 to 4 foot of dirt ..I seen them in California .In 07 when I was their trucker Crystal their brakes stop working.
That's great, as long as you lose your breaks at the exact moment you're passing a ramp.
Nice, but backwards.
Brakes
Going up is as crazy as coming back down. You are not going as fast coming down though and it saves you from being killed or killing someone else 🙏. I thank God for these in the mountains. They are life savers.🙏🙏🙏
Saw those in some areas of Vermont
Pass the clean underwear, thanks.
that's what they're there for!!
You miss spelled brakes.
That is crazy and frightening how their brakes can just fail like that 😲
He should have stopped at the end. That was the whole point of a run a way truck ramp. Probably not using enough gravel or not right depth.
This is no good, just to show this much show what happened and how they got the truck out...🤔🤔🤔🤔
It’s deep gravel!
I 70 in Colorado always has tire tracks in them, the sand is pretty thick, most have to get towed out.Yhey save many lives
It suck’s when you use those ramps as a truck driver you have to pay for the truck to be towed out
too bad idiot truckers from Florida who have never driven a mountain grade didn't use this. 4 innocent people died because of negligence 4 years ago in Colorado
this is the smartest thing people have came up with, I'm sure it has saved quite a few lives......
That's got to be terrifying.Great job
Does anybody know what happens to the drivers after using the ramp? I’m curious if they get ticketed for something crazy like failure to maintain safe speeds or failure to do a pre-trip inspection (if the brakes are bad) or something along those lines. Do drivers usually get fired for this?
I seen this once in West Virginia. Scary
the sand stops the trucks forward movement and also stops IT backward movement because it's stuck in the sand go back to third grade
long way to the top. that's something most people don't understand when a big rig loses its breaks
