I have been living on long Island N.Y. most of my 79 years and yes we here have heard of rip tides but not associated with any phenomenon such as this. For everyone saying it’s fake, well hate to brake your hearts, but it’s real I looked it up. They are rare but can occur anywhere but they are well known at the Isle of Rhé in France. It’s a dangerous phenomenon that is caused by the I resection of two swells (sets of waves) traveling at right angles to each other. They create a distinctive checkerboard or grid-like pattern and they generate unpredictable rip currents and powerful waves, posing a significant hazard to swimmers and boaters! FYI
